About us

This website celebrates the real stories of real people who are working to deliver better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Attracting More People to Work in Indigenous Health marketing campaign aims to increase the number of health professionals contributing to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and to encourage students to pursue a career in this area.

The campaign contributes to the workforce expansion and support elements of the Indigenous Chronic Disease Package (ICDP). Under the ICDP initiative, the Australian Government has committed $805.5 million over four years to tackle chronic disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people(s), who experience a burden of disease two-and-a-half times that of other Australians. The ICDP forms part of Australia’s Closing the Gap strategy, which is a commitment by all Australian governments to work towards a better future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by closing gaps in areas such as health, housing, education and employment.

The people, blogs and stories featured on this website are real.  They show that while working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health has its challenges, it can be professionally and personally rewarding as well.  It is an opportunity to put your capacities to the test in a new environment, to develop new skills that will help further your career, and to get to know new and interesting people and places.  It may even change your life – and the lives of others.
